In 2012 Ami graduated from UCF with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology and American Sign Language as areas of focus and a minor in Education). She worked for 12 years in public schools and was a Physical Education Teacher for grades K-8.
Surfing -
Ami has over 20 years of surfing experience. She learned to surf as a teenager and started competing in local contests at age 16. At 18 she started teaching surf lessons at local surf schools and continued doing so through college. At 18 Ami entered her first professional surfing event and continued to surf professional events for several years. In 2010 she was the Southeast Regional Champion for Women's Shortboard. In 2015 she started "Surfing with Ami" and has been coaching ever since. In 2021 she left teaching to pursue working as a surf coach and working with Central Florida Women's Surfing Club.
